Flushing Archives

The images in this gallery capture Flushing from the 1950's to the present. Many photos were taken from the same location over this span of time, they show both enduring landmarks and dramatic change. Since starting this site over 4 years ago I have been continuing to get a great response for pictures from my old home town, now averaging about 10,000-20,000 views a month. I will be revising an expanded version of a Flushing History photobook for 2013 so keep posted. Requests and comments are always welcome!

A not so every day view of the Bowne house, from October 10, 2009.
The incredible "Courtyard Condo" shown here on October 10, 2009, over 2 years since completion and still no occupants! If the windows behind this thing were open the unfortunate residents behind could see right through it. In stark contrast to the apartments left, which have some architectural detail and their historic next door neighbor the Bowne House see:

Caldor's Main Street entrance of what was once Alexander's. They opened at this location in September 1993 and closed the doors January 1999. The signage, ironically lasting longer than the store itself, is looking worse for the wear by October 2009.
