Flushing Archives

The images in this gallery capture Flushing from the 1950's to the present. Many photos were taken from the same location over this span of time, they show both enduring landmarks and dramatic change. Since starting this site over 4 years ago I have been continuing to get a great response for pictures from my old home town, now averaging about 10,000-20,000 views a month. I will be revising an expanded version of a Flushing History photobook for 2013 so keep posted. Requests and comments are always welcome!

Construction on 35th Avenue near Parsons Blvd, Kingston Court Apartments are in the background from the Summer of 1973. Some brand names that appear here are a McCulloch MAC 10-10 chain saw, a 1968 Datsun, a Link-Belt crane from Crown Rentals and a 1941 Dodge flatbed truck (amazing even for 1973).
One of Flushing's magnificant trees is the copper beech, which has copper-brown color leaves in the spring that turn green by summer. This 100+ year old tree on 35th Avenue near Parsons Blvd. was cut down for construction in the summer of 1973.
From June 29, 2007. This incredible structure went up next to the landmark Bowne House (upper left corner of inset). In the courtyard of this 1930's apartment building they actually constructed these condos that appear like barracks. A new level of densification, too bad for the view of the folks behind.
