  • Halloween at the Sunsphere 1982. The button/inset reads "I was there on Closing Day!". The people who worked there made the Fair special, serving those who would often have to wait hours for the elevator ride to the reataurant. Over 15,000 people applied for jobs at the Fair and 3,000 applied for the handful of jobs at the Hardee's restaurant in the Sunsphere, which remained open after the Fair (closing in March 1984). This photo was taken in the fourth level food staging area.

  • United States Pavilion viewed from the Sunsphere side of the lake. Lots of people can be seen in the pavilion and near the ampitheatre. Interesting to note the Philips product display truck in the distance; the Philips Corporation being new to the area in 1982. In May 2004 Philips announced the closing of their Knoxville facility.

  • The United States Pavilion, seen here around March 1982, the World's Fair site still under construction with yellow caution tape surrounding the building. In 1991 the City of Knoxville demolished the building in a controlled blast with no use for the abandonded building found in 9 years.
